8 States Pledge Reduction in Carbon Emissions
Scientists are finally getting through to politicians that carbon emissions are causing big problems to our planet. The Multi-State ZEV Action Plan was released a few days ago to help limit those carbon emissions by putting 3.3 million zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) on the road by 2025. The 8 states that have made this pledge are California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Oregon. Together they make up about one quarter of U.S. car sales each year.
This plan includes 11 main results they are hoping to reach and also the plans to attain them. The results consist of three main categories; expanding the market of ZEVs, improving the experience of manufacturing and purchasing ZEVs for automakers and consumers, and regulating the codes and standards of the ZEV market.
ZEVs include plug-in hybrids, battery electric and hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles. As of May, 2014, manufacturers have rolled out more than 20 models in these categories as they continue to build the market and demand. Currently there are over 200,000 ZEVs nationwide.
